About the OASIS Game

Oasis game was developed by Elos Institute as a participatory methodology that empowers communities to be actively involved in a community transformation. It brings people together to design and implement a challenging project in a collaborative way.

Instead of just looking at the problems that need solution or repairing what is wrong, the Oasis Game focuses on the little “points of light” in each community – the local beauty, talents, culture. It offer ways to work together with the community to create spaces where these “beauties” can grow and expand.

The Oasis aims to facilitate the construction of a common dream to be identified by the community members themselves. The nature of the project can vary in scope and scale. It can be a (re)construction of public spaces or buildings, such as squares, parks, schools or cultural centres. The community will define what they want in order to have the community of their dreams.

The game includes all members of the community, including the outside influences. Thus, it is based on collaboration of the community members, local governments, NGOs as well as local businesses.

The game got its name from history books: an Oasis offers hope, refugee and stability for the tired travellers in the desert.

Our world is full of deserts: regions and communities where the vitality was destroyed physically, socially and/or environmentally. However, there are still points of light full of hope, beauty and joy in these places.

The Oasis Game’s intention is to strengthen these points of light, be it by creating new ones of expanding what is already there. The whole community can work together in a cooperative, creative and quick way to create a modern Oasis: a physical space that promotes life, joy and restoration.

The Oasis Game aims to awake and nurture the spirit of social and cooperative entrepreneurship among the community members. Moreover, it highlights the potential and talents already present in the community.

Therefore, the two main objectives are:
 1. to restore and strengthen   the relationships and connections   that unite the community;

 2. to cultivate a sense of   opportunity and   responsibility for   caring for   people and the   environment.
